Firefighter and EMS Programs
For those interested in joining as a volunteer member, we ask that you be passionate, committed, and willing to sacrifice your time to assist those community members who are in need of our help.
EMS Program
Maynard Fire Department provides the Marcy
community with quick and professional emergency medical service. Maynard hosts
both Basic Life Support (BLS) as well as Advanced Life Support (ALS) in the form
of Paramedics and AEMTs. A comprehensive Continuing Medical Education program
(CME) is offered to keep Maynard’s EMT’s and Paramedics sharp and up to date.
Maynard is a NYSDOH certified agency.
All applicants must be at least 18 years old, have had a recent annual physical and is compliant with MFD By-Laws Y SOG's
Firefighter Bunk-In Program
Our Bunk-In programs offers free student housing with full use of Gym, Bunk Room with free WiFi and personal protective equipment is provided.
The Maynard Fire District plays host to the
SUNY Polytechnic Institute, Utica Campus, in the southeastern portion of their
district. Starting in the fall of 2019, Maynard founded a Bunk-In program where
qualified students living at SUNY Poly and surrounding colleges can live at
Maynard Station 1 and respond to fire/EMS calls in exchange for free room and
board. This program has led to a reduction in response times and an increase in
the overall response capabilities of the Maynard Fire Department.
RAM Teen Program
Our RAM programs offers youth a path to begin their rewarding journey as a volunteer firefighter.
In response to a demand from the young
residence of the Maynard Fire District, Maynard formed the Restricted Access
Member (RAM) program. This program allows interested potential members between
the ages of 16 and 18 years old to participate in department events and
responses under the watchful eye of senior members. RAMs are assessed upon
their 18th birthday and are either brought into the department as a probationary
member or retained for further review.
